HEG: Communication Meeting

Effective communication is not just exchanging information but also about understanding the emotion and intentions behind the information. Also, being able to clearly convey a message, you need to also listen in a way that gains the full meaning of what’s being said and makes the other person feel heard and understood.

A communication meeting was held on 21st September, 2019 by COO Shri Manish Gulati with all the Executives and Staff of HEG emphasizing fast changing market conditions and asking everyone to gear up to do their best for the company by controlling costs, inventories and wastages besides improving efficiency and productivity.

HEG: Awareness on Care Scrap

Working on improvements in shop-floors real time bottlenecks, HR-L&D continued the drive for the month of July-September, 2019 - through knowledge sharing sessions for the workmen, where they were been taught about the basics of Awareness on Care Scrap of our products (electrodes & nipples) during their process-wise improvements. Our team along with plant's senior officials developed an in-house technique for the Care Scrap which has resolved the major issues regarding product movement.

HEG: Behavior Based Safety

Behavior Based Safety is a program designed to influence employee actions toward safer outcomes, ideally by preventing an accident or injury before it occurs. Implementing a Behavior Based safety programs by Learning & Development Team provided a platform to HEG employees the most comprehensive way to understand safety, eliminate hazards and prevent injuries. This Safety program conducted in July – September 2019, Ms. Asha Pathak included sessions of mutual discussions, review of case studies and helping out employee to understand the goal behavior based safety i.e “at risk” behaviors to “safe” behavior.

HEG: Awareness on Industrial First Aid

Learning & Development team provided a platform to our HEG employees for Internal Training workshop on Industrial First Aid. Mr. Mukesh Mevafarosh & Mr. Sanjay Sitoke shared their knowledge on First Aid education & stresses the importance of practicing safety at all times to prevent accidents and emergencies. This session was held in July, 2019 which helps the employees to work carefully and avoid accidents. These kind of campaigns directly makes the workplace safer and better.

HEG: Technical Session on Industrial Hydraulics

Learning & Development team provided a platform to our maintenance team for Internal Training workshop on Industrial Hydraulics at their concern knowledge centre. Mr. Kapil Triphati & Mr. Jeevendra Patel shared their knowledge on Fundamentals of Hydraulics covering the Elements of Hydraulics system, sharing these improving technical skills with our employees helps them out to understand the hierarchy of Industrial Hydraulics. This platform included sessions of mutual discussions and review of case studies from different areas of plant in terms of Industrial Hydraulics following which monthly sessions are planned and executed for continuous improvement of technical skills of the field team.

HEG: Employees Engagement Session

In order to create healthy working environment in HEG, where employees are recognized and feels valued for their efforts, L&D team initiated an awareness session program which was conducted for GEP employees in which Quality related, Understanding GEP Process & Discussion on handling material has been explained. During the session Mr. Puneet Tiwari, Mr. Vikas Rat & Mr. Anurag Mathur briefed the employees about GEP Process and help them to resolve their problems during the time of material handling.

HEG: Technical Session on Autonomous Maintenance

Working on improvements in shops maintenance, HR - L&D continued the drive for the month of August 2019, Mr. Swapnil Jain shared their knowledge on Autonomous maintenance which is based upon operator’s skills and knowledge development i.e. (Hydraulic, Pneumatic & Lubrication), AMs seeks to empower them to take over the daily care & easy maintenance tasks to their equipments. Further, it leads to create autonomous teams, able to manage themselves their small unit.

HEG: Coal Handling System

Coal handling at utilities requires specialized technology and equipment from unloading to crushing and dust control to fire protection. Coal from the coal wagons is unloaded by tipplers in the coal handling plant. Working on improvements in Coal Handling System, L&D team conducted a session in August 2019, where Mr. Tajendra Bhatia shared their knowledge on Coal Handling System which is based upon the function of receive, process, store and feed the coal bunkers consistently over the entire life of power plant. The session was really fruitful for all the team members as they got to know the advanced techniques of coal handling system.

HEG: Basics of Work Permit System

A permit to work system is a formal written system used to control certain types of work that are potentially hazardous. L&D team schedule a session on this in August, 2019 in which Mr. Surendra Sharma briefed about permit to work is a document which specifies the work to be done and the precautions to be taken. Permits to work form an essential part of safe systems of work for many maintenance activities. These are uses in hazardous industries and involve procedures to request, review, authorize, document and most importantly de-conflict tasks to be carried out.

HEG: Data Analytics Session

Learning & Development team provided a platform to our Reseacrh & Development team an enthusiastic session of Data Analytics by Mr. Subrata Rath (Indian Statistical, Pune) in September, 2019 which provided the type of learning discovering the patterns in data attributes to learn or better understand the data. Clustering algorithms which are used to discover such patterns, i.e., to determine data clusters. Algorithms which are employed to organize data into groups (clusters) where members in a group are similar in some way and different from members in other groups.

ADHPL: Internal Auditors Training Workshop

A two day’s training programme was conducted on September 2nd & 3rd, 2019 to train the internal auditors of ADHPL and MPCL on ISO 45001:2018. Total 13 employees participated in this training organized at ADHPL unit. The awareness about the OHS management system launched by ISO in the year 2018 were given to trainees which is recognized as ISO 45001: 2018. The training was conducted by an external agency hired for this purpose.

LNJ Denim: First Aid Training

The First Aid Training was conducted on 11th & 12th July, 2019 at LNJ Denim unit. The eight hour training program was provided to staff & workers and it was imparted by Shri R.C. Mehta. He had also demonstrated procedure required during accidents & medical emergencies. He requested all the employees to follow the first aid procedures and provide help to co-workers in any kind of emergency situations. Total 25 staff & workers had attended the session which was very beneficial for all.

LNJ Denim: 5 S & Quality Circle Training & It's Implementation

A special training on 5 S & Quality Circle was conducted on 16th September, 2019 at LNJ Denim plant. The four hour training program was provided to the staff and the training was given by Shri V. K. Purohit. The main objective of the training was to create awareness about the use of 5 S in plant. Before training, Shri V. K. Purohit audited the implementation of 1 S & 2 S in our plant. He appreciated the system implementation & given his certain observations for further improvement in departmentwise. Total 28 staff members had attended the session.

LNJ Denim: HIGG FEM 3.0 Audit

LNJ Denim unit went through HIGG FEM 3.0 onsite verification audit which was done on 29th August, 2019 by bureau veritas auditor Mr. Karthi M. The audit went successful and everyone was really happy with the completion of this onsite verification audit.

Ringas: Motivational Session

Shri Avinash Bhargava, Chief Operating Officer has been invited as Guest Faculty in local Vedanta PG Girls College for motivating the Graduate and Post Graduate girls for their examinations and in their personal life.

He delivered the session of about 90 minutes during which an interactive session took place on the subject “An insight for us as Student/Human”. The College Management Committee included the above said session for their documentation with UG/PG NAC.

Maral: An Awareness Session on Substance Abuse Redressal

An Awareness Session on Substance Abuse Redressal was conducted on 26th September-2019. This three Hour session was provided to the staff of all the Departments in the Factory. The Training was given by NISD. The session was very interesting followed by some activities to make people understand the harms of using intoxicating Materials.

BMD: Stress Management Training

A training program on stress management was organized at BMD unit where main speaker was Shri Shaktiraj Singh. He is also spiritually associated with Brahmakumari organization for mental peace and relaxation of mind. The session has very good feedback from participants in terms of handling stress in daily life style and work routine.

Mandapam: Audits

A) GOTS,OCS,GRS,RCS Audit

The Mandpam unit went through GOTS,OCS,GRS,RCS audit on 31th August 2019. The audit was successfully coordinated by Management Representative Mr. S.K. Miglani was ably supported by Mr. Pritam Gurjar and by all the HODs and their respective teams. The auditor, Mr. Akshay Shastri audited the systems and processes of the entire unit.

B) EnMS audit ISO 50001: 2011

Mandpam unit went through EnMS audit ISO 50001: 2011 on 7th and 8th September 2019. Management Representative Mr. B.K. Singhal was ably supported by all HODs and their respective teams for successful conduct of the Audit.  The auditor, Mr. Ashok Mathur audited the systems and processes of the entire unit for 2 days and certification continued after successful completion of the audit.

C) SA 8000:2014 Audit

The Mandapam unit went through SA 8000:2014 audit by BSI Auditor Mr. Pradeep Chotani & Mrs. Shami Singh from 17th and 18th July 2019. The Management Representative Mr. Pritam Gurjar, was ably supported by all HODs and their respective teams to conduct the audit successfully. The Certification is continued after audit clearance.

Mandapam: IMS Renewal Audit

The Mandpam unit went through IMS audit from 1st to 3rd August 2019. Management Representative Mr. S.K. Miglani was ably supported by all HODs and their respective teams for successful conduct of the Audit by the renowned Certification Agency – M/s BSI Group India Pvt Ltd. The auditors, Mr. Virender Singh, Mr. Vijay Uppal, Mr. Ravi Pratap and Mr. Vivek Jha audited the systems and processes of the entire unit for 3 days and certification continued after successful completion of the audit.

Mandapam: Motivation Programme

A Motivation Program was organized for shop floors team to learn the basic concepts of personal motivation on 27th to 28th September, 2019 at Mandapam unit. All Checkers, Training Team, Maintenance, Engineering & Security Team of Plant attended the session. The session was conducted by Mr. Pankaj Shukla, Life Management Guru, Being Capable Organization. 

Banswara: SA 8000 Surveillance Audit

The BSI team members Shri Vivek Jha & Mrs. Anita Rathore audited the Banswara, Lodha plant for SA 8000 Surveillance Audit. During audit, all the related area were assessed and no NC was observed, however few observations were attended by the concerned team members immediately. Overall the surveillance audit went very well.

Banswara: ISO 50001 Audit

Surveillance Audit of ISO: 50001 “Energy Management” took place at Lodha Unit by BSI Auditor Shri Ashok Mathur on 19th & 20th August, 2019. The Management representative Shri Deepak Mehta was ably supported by HODs and their respective teams in conducting the audit successfully without any NC and major observations. The certification continues after audit clearance.

Banswara: IMS Integrated Management

The audit for IMS certificates was held at Banswara unit from 7th to 9th August, 2019. A team of three auditors from British Standard Institution, Shri Virender Singh, Mrs. Anita Rathore, Shri Jasbir Singh Bhatiya, Shri Vivek Jha conducted the Audit. The Team recommended all three certificates for Banswara unit. The audit was coordinated by MR QMS Shri R K Gagrani, MR OHSAS Shri Aditya Sharma and EMS MR Shri Devendra Tank. 

Banswara: Workers Training by CBWE

Shri K. S. Yadav, Regional Director and Shri J. J. Patel from CBWE Udaipur conducted one day training program for senior workers on 28th August, 2019. Total 36 workers from plant participated in it with full enthusiasm. The content of program was very much appreciated by all the participants and the training went successful.

Banswara: Self Development Programme

`Speak What You Know’ programme was held at Rishabhdev unit in August & September, 2019. Four staff members from various departments gave five minutes speech on various topics. All the speakers presented a very good performance and got appreciation from all. Thereafter an extempore speech on current affairs was also held which was quite interesting.

Rishabhdev: ISO 50001:2011 Audit

The Surveillance Audit for ISO 50001:2011 (Energy Management System) was held at Rishabhdev unit from 26th to 29th August, 2019 by BSI Auditor Shri Ashok Mathur. He audited all the energy aspects of the plant and it was completed successfully with re-issue of ISO 50001:2011 certification.

Rishabhdev: GRS Audit

The GRS audit was conducted by Mr. Mohit Joshi from Control Union on 30th July, 2019 at Rishabhdev unit and it was completed successfully without any major NCs and observations. Shri K.B. Khatod, COO appreciated the team efforts for this overall audit process.

Rishabhdev: Quality Life Workshop

A two days Quality Life workshop was held on 3rd & 4th September, 2019 at Rishabhdev unit. Workers of various departments with their spouses participated in the workshop. Shri K S Yadav, Regional Director & Shri Punit Goutam from CBWE, Udaipur conducted the programme which ended with closing session attended by Shri M.S. Manilal, DGM (Pers. & IR) and senior officers of the unit.    

Kharigram: HR Meet

A group HR/IR heads meeting was conducted at Kharigram unit on 12th July, 2019.  Mr Manoj Sharma (CHRO) chaired the meeting. All HR heads came together at one platform to discuss their unit level issues and development aspects. Some important points like New Skill Development Scheme-PMKVY, Workmen Trainings, Labour Losses, Wages, Incentives, and Delegation etc were discussed. The target was to reduce labour losses given to all concerned and it was also decided to prepare the different in common format.

Kharigram: Training on “SA 8000 Internal Audit"

A training programme was organised on “Internal Audit of SA 8000" on 6th July, 2019. Shri R. K. Soni, Group Facilitator, Shri K. N. Mathur, MR and Shri Gourav Bakliwal, Dy. Mgr. explained about conductance of Internal Audit of SA 8000 to all concerned. All the participants and SPT members got updated and acquired knowledge about audit requirements and compliances. After this awareness session, an internal audit was also conducted to understand the level and readiness of employees.

Kharigram: Surveillance Audit of SA 8000:2014

The Unannounced Surveillance Audit of SA 8000 was carried out from 16th to 17th July, 2019 at Kharigram unit. This audit was to assess all processes & implementation of SA 8000:2014 system. A team of two members from BSI team, headed by Mr. Sanjay Bharadwaj conducted the audit and finally recommended for continuation of the certification. In the closing meeting, Shri V.R. Joshi, COO conveyed thanks to all auditors and greeted to all members for this achievement.

Kharigram: Surveillance & Transition Audit

The Surveillance cum Transition Audit was carried out from 13th to 20th August 2019 at Kharigram unit. A team of eight members from BSI team headed by Mr. Virender Singh audited all aspects of QMS, EMS & OHSAS at unit level. Kharigram, being main unit wrt coordination and implementation of IMS in other group units, the auditors shared their views and recommended for recertification.

Kharigram: Training on “Accident-Cause, Effect & Prevention"

A training cum awareness programme on Accident-Cause, Effect & Prevention was organised on 17th August, 2019 which was presented by Shri Dileep Chourasia, Safety Officer. The Officers of Engineering, Maintenance, Security, Commercial and Production departments were covered in this programme. The topics covered during this training were; Fire Fighting, Evacuation Plan, Emergency Exit, Assemble method etc. He educated all the personnel to follow safety rules and how to respond upon different emergency situations.

Kharigram: Training on Manufacturing Cost Optimization

An awareness session was organised by HR department on the subject “Manufacturing Cost Optimization" on 27th September, 2019. Shri Sanjai Sharma - DGM, Purchase explained about Cost Optimization at various production stages, Effective Supply Chain Management, Latest & Innovative procurement techniques, Value Engineering, Substitute Development, Brand Realization etc. through this program. All the participants’ acquired good knowledge and encouraged to organise the same for all technical staff periodically. All HOD’s and Section heads attended this programme.

Kharigram: Energy Management Audit

As a part of Management Systems, a certification audit of Energy Management System (ISO 50001:2011) was conducted on 19th to 20th September, 2019. Mr Ashok Mathur of BSI, audited Kharigram unit. He audited different aspects of energy sources, consumption level, process parameters, efficiency and its optimization. He finally recommended for the continuation of certification. Shri V.R. Joshi, COO congratulated all team members for this great achievement.

Kharigram: Training Session on “Kaizen"

A training cum awareness session was conducted at Kharigram unit to boost the Kaizen activities in the plant. It was emphasized to remove non value added activities (NNVA), first to start removing all kind of wastages. All the HODs and second line person were benefited by this session. The session was delivered by V. K. Purohit (CTS Cell) and it was quite interactive and all the participants learned about tools and concept in different ways. Total 31 officers were benefited with this training.

Kharigram: Training on Energy Management

An awareness cum training session on Energy Management was conducted on 17th September, 2019. All the HOD’s and Managers attended this programme and got benefited. The topics covered during the session were; Energy Consumption, Efficiency, Energy Objective and Target, DO’s and Don’ts, Monitoring, Measurement and Analysis etc. Mr. Vikas Garg, Dy. MR was the facilitator of the programme.

Kharigram: Training Programme for Checkers

HR department conducted a 2 days motivational workshop - “Man Ki Shakti” at Kharigram unit on 19th -20th August, 2019. Dr. Pankaj Shukla, Senior Faculty, Being Capable Organization took sessions, also different motivational games were played during this program. After the program, energy levels of our checkers was observed very high with good feedback. They were very much happy to attend this external programme and total 65 checkers benefited from this workshop.

Kharigram: “Meet the COO” Interactive Session

A philosophy to develop closeness, engagement and motivation among shop floor staff, HR department organised an interactive session exclusively for Shift Officers with the Shri V.R. Joshi, COO on 23rd July, 2019. It was an open platform to discuss and sharing thoughts about professional and personal talk with Shri Ashish Kumar Pandey, Head HR and Shri V.R. Joshi,COO. All the participants shared their views, problems, suggestions in the forum. Shri V.R. Joshi motivated them about how to to give their best outputs and ensure to get relax at personal front. All the officers were quite satisfied with this meeting and felt supported by the management.
