HO: Diwali Celebration

Deepavali is a celebration enjoyed not only by Hindus but also by Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists. The significance of Deepavali is different for each religion. Hindus celebrate the return of the Hindu Lord Rama to his kingdom after 14 years in exile. They light Diyas as a sign of welcome and tribute to Lord Rama. Diwali is derived from the root word Deepavali which means “row of lights”. This eminent festival is celebrated worldwide in October/November month depending on the cycle of the moon (new moon). The common theme of the significance of Deepavali is the triumph of good over evil or the destruction of all negative qualities, like – violence, anger, fear, jealousy, greed, etc. to embrace more positive ones.
